Getting there

De Courcy Island is located approximately 12 nautical miles south of Nanaimo.

 

When it comes to getting to our De Courcy Basecamp guests have two options.

 

1) 11AM pick-up the Departure Bay ferry terminal, (note free parking is available at TRAK HQ)  Your guide will drive you the approximate 20 minutes south to Cedar by the Sea. From there we will pack-up our kayaks with provisions for the 4 day experience and we will paddle the 4.5 nautical miles (1.5 hours paddling) to the Pirates Cove Marine Provincial Park. Welcome to De Courcy Island!

De Courcy Island is serviced by 3-4 chartered float plane from YVR South Terminal every day during the summer.

 

Guests arriving to YVR can skip land and sea transport and arrive directly to our basecamp via air! Guests depart from YVR South Terminal at 1:30pm and will enjoy a scenic 10 minute flight right into the De Courcy Island Marina where they will connect with TRAK and Coastal Expression guides. Our team is happy to help with all flight planning logistics. An additional cost of $242.00 will be applied for round-trip flights.

Experience our island basecamp
 

Situated a top a 100' bluff our basecamp boats a 180 degree vista of the most stunning ocean view. Sit back and taking in the morning light as it peaks above Vancouver Island seen in the distance.

Play hard and Sleep well at night! Guests can enjoy their own 12 x 10 private safari style accommodations. Tents are outfitted with premium cots, with solar lanterns, just bring your own sleeping bag.

  • Two enormous Safari tents allow for a spacious dining area w/library as well as a great space for all educational programming, both offer a spectacular view of the Salish Sea.

  • Shower with on-demand hot water and an ocean view.

Beginner

Our "Beginner" Basecamp is suitable for those who do not have any kayaking or camping experience who are looking to learn the basics and set a foundation.

Intermediate

Our "Intermediate" Basecamp is suited for those people who have some kayaking experience but want to improve skills and learn about multi-day sea kayaking.

Intermediate +

Our "Intermediate +" Basecamp is for those looking to advance their skills in specific areas such as rolling, paddling in current and pushing their limit. We bring in top level coaches for these basecamps.

Beginner

Sessions involve a mixture of instruction and fun. From our Adventure Center we can investigate the variety of marine plant and animal life as well as explore the geology, history, and stories of Newcastle Island. Or enjoy the warm water and beauty of the surrounding forests and mountains of Westwood Lake.
